Victorian Pride Centre

Stage

CURRENT
COMPLETE

The Victorian Pride Centre is a major part of the revitalisation of Fitzroy Street in St Kilda.

The Victorian Pride Centre is part-funded by the Victorian State Government who in 2016 contributed $15 million to the construction of the facility to showcase LGBTQI art and history as well as to bring together advisory, health and support services.

Arising from extensive consultation with the LGBTQI community, the project calls for a balanced consideration of welcoming, civic facades and a safe and secure environment for all the centre’s users.

The winner of this competition is Grant Amon Architects and Brearley Architects + Urbanists. The proposal is a building with a memorable and distinct identity. In particular, the sculptural ellipsoidal atrium is an impressive central element within the design. Responsive to the programs of the various community organisations within the building, the design includes flexible and multi-use spaces to host its many anticipated uses.
