Introduction
The two-stage design competition for the Whitehorse Performing Arts Centre calls for designs to transform the site and provide a contemporary theatre, festival and function centre.
Whitehorse City Council’s vision for an accessible and contemporary venue to meet the diverse and changing needs of the community is at the heart of the project. The winner of this competition is BKK and Kerstin Thompson Architects with Aspect Studio. Their proposal is both efficient and sympathetic to the existing landscape while delivering a building with a bold sense of civic identity. Set to open in late 2023, the new centre will provide an expanded array of performing arts, functions and festival opportunities for generations to come.
Winning Design
“The proposal by BKK and Kerstin Thompson Architects with Aspect Studio carefully considers the relationship between the building and the site. Its combined architectural and landscape strategy is efficient and sympathetic to the existing landscape while delivering a building with a bold sense of civic identity.”
