Introduction
As part of The City of Charles Sturt’s initiative to transform the public open space at Henley Square, the aim of the Henley Square Urban Design Competition is to develop design solutions that better manage the needs of the local community and visitors, without compromising the existing character and values that make the Henley Square precinct unique.
With the intention of maximising open space surrounding the jetty and coastline, the outcome of the competition promotes community interaction and heightens the existing character of the coastal surrounds. The winner of this competition is Taylor Cullity Lethlean. Their proposal represents a reliable and impressive array of talents. The team includes Troppo Architects, Bluebottle and Wallbridge and Gilbert.
Winning Design
“Henley Square is an inspiring yet pragmatic signature statement. It promotes a mix of uses, from informal picnicking and small gatherings to possible formal uses for occasional markets, film screenings and performance events.”
