The Living Village Design Competition is the product of a partnership between the Australian Institute of Architects, the South Australian Housing Authority and the City of Unley, providing an exciting opportunity for emerging architects to showcase innovative ideas in the affordable housing space.

The open single-stage design competition invited competitors to redevelop existing housing and increase density while incorporating an existing heritage building in the heart of a vibrant precinct in the City of Unley in South Australia. The competition is centred on principles of energy efficiency, environmental, community and cultural sustainability. The project envisages a mixed residential housing village that encapsulates innovative design for residential living with an emphasis on affordable, social and market priced housing.

The winner of the competition is Inclu Design Architects & Co, whose proposal presents a nuanced sense of community through a variety of private and shared open spaces.
