The Australian Furniture Design Award is a significant accolade developed to recognise excellence in furniture and lighting design and its contribution to design discourse and Australian culture.

Biannually, the National Gallery of Victoria and Stylecraft hold the Australian Furniture Design Award as part of Melbourne Design Week.

In response to the 2022 Melbourne Design Week theme ‘Design the World You Want’ the Australian Furniture Design Award asks designers, architects and makers to consider the broader implications and opportunities of furniture and lighting design. The Award focuses on the many ways that furniture and lighting design can contribute to our cultural, economic, social and ecological world.

The winner of the 2022 Australian Furniture Design Award is Ashley Jameson Eriksmoen with ‘The dream, or: The view from here is both bleak and resplendent’, a chaise lounge composed of salvaged wooden chairs and eucalypt-dyed vintage wool blankets.
