From 20 October 2021, the NGV invites architect-led teams, to participate in the NGV Architecture Commission Competition for 2021. Competitors are invited to activate the Grollo Equiset Garden at NGV International with an engaging temporary structure or installation.

This is a two-stage design competition open to architects or multi-disciplinary teams that include a registered architect. Teams can include Australian and international members and may bring together various design and broader creative disciplines to propose a project that explores new terrain for an architecture commission – from a conceptual, material, experiential or formal sense.

An anonymous Stage One calls for high level design proposals, of which up to five will be chosen to proceed to a paid Stage Two. These five shortlisted submissions will be further developed and refined in Stage Two, for presentation to the competition jury. The Jury will select a winner, who will be commissioned by the NGV to complete the design development and delivery of the 2021 NGV Architecture Commission.
