The aim of the Henley Square Urban Design Competition is to develop design solutions that will better manage the needs of the local community as well as the visitors, without compromising the existing character and values that make the Henley Square precinct unique.

The redevelopment of Henley Square was intended to connect public open space with the jetty and the coast line in a way that allowed for community interaction and also heightened the existing strength of the coastal surroundings. The cdesign criteria included that the design maximise ocean views from all angles, while also emphasised safety and pedestrian accessibility. The design had to include mixed use integration that balanced commercial viability while preserving the community atmosphere of the space.
